Students in 11th Grade English will work to continue working on English grammar, reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills while studying important pieces of literature.
This year we will complete the Ministry of English’s literature program (the Log). Log units include a number of elements, including logwork and a summative assessment. The logwork may be an essay, presentation, or creative piece of work that reflects some analysis of the studied text. The summative assessment represents a final exam on the unit, during which the student must demonstrate a deep understanding of the poem/story/novel/play. In the 11th grade, we will be studying poetry, a play, and a short story for the Literature Log.
Full participation in class discussions and activities. I expect students to use the classroom not only to further their engagement with the texts we study but to work on their English skills.
Reading of assigned materials. We will be reading a selection of literature, which students are expected to read on time and in an active manner, using the strategies we have learned. There will be various, short writing assignments in class and outside it that support a close, active reading of the texts.
Log work for four units will be completed along with one book assignment.
